A CRIME THRILLER ABOUT ADULTERATED OLIVE OIL.
An unscrupulous olive oil trader, George Leggierie, has it all, a thriving resturant business, a nationwide distribution deal for his olive oil label and a beautiful wife. However his world comes spiraling out of control when a mysterious man shows up at his doorstep one night with an offer he could not refuse.
The soaring global demand for olive oil has outstripped the available supply. Thus manufacturers often adulterate the olive oil with other oils or use substandard waste olives to meet the demand; resulting in more olive oil being sold than there are being produced; making this the biggest food fraud of the 20th/21st century.
Movies like “Blood Diamond” and “Side Effects” highlighted the corrupt industries of the diamond trade and prescription drugs respectively; likewise the goal of “Cold Pressed” is to make the audience aware of the ongoing life threatening fraud in the olive oil industry.
Ultimately this movie is about how we have taken matters that means most to us for granted. For one person it might be the purity of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, to another, it is purely about love.
